L. Vogtle Interiors is a boutique design firm based in Birmingham, Alabama offering full-scale interior design services for jobs of every shape and size.
For years, Laura’s eclectic style has been lauded by friends and local media outlets alike. Her ability to mix high and low, incorporate unique artwork and unexpected elements, and still create a family-friendly home (she’s a mother of 5!) earned her a reputation among design enthusiasts long before she would have officially called herself a designer. Yet after opening Design Supply in 2017, Laura seemed to officially segue into interior design.
She has spent the last several years building the interiors team, including taking on fresh, young designer Catherine Smith. The team has tackled projects of all sizes, from commercial renovations to ground-up residential builds. Thanks to an emphasis on collaboration, both among the LVI experts and between designer and client, each project is infused with the client’s personality and Laura’s distinctive style.
How did you start your company and what’s your favorite part of what you do?
After opening Design Supply (our brick-and-mortar art gallery and design shop) in 2017 it was sort of a natural progression into interior design. I had been unofficially helping friends and clients with their homes for years so it made sense to go ahead and take the plunge with L. Vogtle Interiors. I've spent the last few years building the LVI team and seeking out clients who appreciate a thoughtful, unique approach to design. Our team has tackled projects of all sizes, from commercial renovations to ground-up residential builds. We really enjoy getting to know our clients and figuring out how to meld their personal tastes with our design perspective.
Describe your style in one sentence.
Artful and refined with an edge, but always family-friendly and functional.
When designing a room, where’s the best place to start?
We love to start with an original painting, a striking antique piece of furniture or an inspiring fabric and build the energy of the room from there.
Your three go-to paint colors.
We have been loving Shoji White by Sherwin Williams, Gray Clouds by Sherwin Williams, & Sterling Silver by Benjamin Moore.
What design rule do you follow?
It depends on the style of the house and the personality of our clients, but we are big believers in mixing metals, materials, styles, and pieces from different eras.
Where do you find your inspiration?
We are constantly inspired by both the things we see everyday (the historical architecture of downtown Birmingham, the colors and movement of the artwork at Design Supply, the wild hues of the sunset at Lake Martin) and the extraordinary things we see online and in our favorite shelter magazines. We dream of traveling again soon - trips to New York and Europe always bring new inspiration as well!
Favorite places to shop for home accessories?
We may be biased, but we think that Design Supply has a little bit of everything that you need to add that special touch to your home. Unique one-of-a-kind pieces are what sets your house apart from everyone else's.
The best way to spend a weekend.
You can’t beat a weekend at Lake Martin with great friends and dinner at SpringHouse!
